RollingStone got it profoundly wrong.
For a list claimimg to represent the 100 greatest 'of all time' they sure use a frighteningly narrow perspective focussed primarily on the rock-wanker end of the spectrum, don't they ?
I mean, personally I may like a lot of these guys and have had moments of enjoying what they've done - but there is a big difference between the limits of personal taste and the recognition that someone has a profound and objectively significant impact on the art of their instrument.
Jimi Hendrix has earned a place there alright - and maybe Robert Johnson, too - but the inclusion of the rest is evidence of enormous ignorance and highly risible because of it.
Where is Lenny Breau on the list ? Lonnie Johnson ? Uwe Kropinski ? Charlie Christian ? Wes Montgomery ? George Benson ? Pat Metheny ? Pat Martino ? Bill Frisell ? Allan Holdsworth ? These are all guys who've made an impact far above anything an inept noodler like say, Dave Davies, bless his heart, could ever hope to achieve. And then there is the entire area of formal classical playing ... and flamenco... which has been completely overlooked.
This list is a complete joke. Can't be taken seriously at all.
Kurt Cobain wouldn't even be in the 10000 best, this list is a joke...
